Day 4: How To Be Disciplined

Discipline is an elusive quality that many people seek, yet so little have it.

And why is that?

The reason is simple.

How you perceive discipline in others isn’t how it actually is.

These guys don’t have some amazing tool or great genetics that allow them to be disciplined. (Sure, some people are more likely to have it, but to lack it completely is impossible.)

Those people you think have some hidden formula, are merely doing the following:

They decided to do something, and do it anyways. No matter how bad they feel, no matter the pressure, no matter the circumstances.

For they understand one thing, even though this disturbances exist, they don’t inherently control you.

Rather, they only control people with terrible meta focus.

By that, I mean the ability to exist without identifying with anything. As such, the anxiety of a task doesn’t erode their sense of self, and hence, they don’t falter and don’t stop doing it.

What stops you from discipline is your weak meta-focus, which makes it easier for external pressures to erode your sense of self.

Whenever you lose your ‘self’, your ‘frame’, you go from being outside oriented to inside oriented.

Instead of doing what you should be doing, you instead start to examine your being and wonder how you should fix the imbalance that the external pressure applied.

For example, an undisciplined person is working on a project, then he takes a rest and scrolls through social media for a little.

Then, he sees some people talking about his university major, and how they found it to be the biggest waste of their lives.

Mind you, he’s doing computer science, so their opinion is objectively invalid, no matter how it applied to them subjectively.

A disciplined person would completely ignore what message being transmitted by that post, but an undisciplined one would either start doubting themselves, or fight the stray negative thoughts.

And that’s what defines winners and losers. The moment you acknowledge something might exist, and the moment you start believing in it, that’s when it gains power.

Energetic powers, or as people call them, ’emotions’, only exist through the power of attention give to them by units of consciousness across the universe.

At times, you need to completely ignore whatever other people are telling, by emptying your mind completely just like you do in meditation, and observe how the message they’re trying to make you believe in is formulated inside your mind.

“Oh my god, people with the same major as me aren’t finding jobs or opportunities in the market, maybe I should’ve become an electrical engineer instead?”

This is an example of a thought that your undisciplined brain would make up when you see a negative opinion on your major, and no matter how you respond, you’re losing.

Instead, just keep observing, for the emotion is but an emotion, and the thought is but a thought.

And you? You’re pure consciousness, and you’ve decided long ago that you’d be investing your all in your major, and you’ve made enough research on the market to be sure once and for all that it’s one of the best choices for someone of your capabilities.

Trust me, my friend, you don’t need a reason to be doing anything in this world.

Rather, the most successful people are the ones that did what they did because of a decision that they stuck to, not some made up theory on how it was the most cost-effective plan and what not.

Be less to be more, and do, do, do!

Today’s recommended reading: Atomic Habits

Today’s blurb:

I’ve studied well today, and made up my mind of what to invest the next five years of my life in. However, sometimes, I wonder if I’d be missing out if I invest my all into this kind of lifestyle. Romantic and social opportunities are already something that doesn’t come as easily to me because of my unimpressive exterior, and focusing monotonously on something for so long would easily isolate me and make me a shell of my former self. However, I’ve been living lax free for the last three years just in case I made some friends or got laid, but asides from two girls and about twenty friends/acquaintances who only greet me in passing, I haven’t made all that progress. Enough is enough, and it’s time to make some real changes and ‘heal’ as some gurus would say. I’d need to redesign my whole personality, how I perceive myself, and my beliefs to be able to make the best out of myself, and meditation and occult practices are my best bet.
